The Insect Intelligence & Power Index — the definitive ranking of the 16 most powerful and intelligent insects on Earth, scored across 10 weighted categories with 21 verified data points per species.

What is the Insect Intelligence & Power Index?

The Insect Intelligence & Power Index (IIPI) is an interactive, data-driven dossier that ranks the sixteen most cognitively and ecologically powerful insects on Earth. Each species — from the honeybee to the cockroach, from the leafcutter ant to the emperor dragonfly — is scored across ten weighted categories: cognitive architecture, collective intelligence, communication, engineering, combat, ecological dominance, evolutionary resilience, sensory acuity, metabolic efficiency, and adaptive plasticity.

Compare 16 species side-by-side. Discover which insect could survive a nuclear war (the American cockroach). Learn which insect has more neurons than any other of its size (the western honeybee, at 960,000). Watch the emperor dragonfly, which catches 95% of the prey it targets — four times more than a lion. Explore the leafcutter ant colony that runs an underground farm eight million workers strong.

Interactive features include: species dossiers with radar charts, head-to-head comparisons, extremophile survival matrix, an insect orchestra sound engine, a spirit-insect personality quiz, a scale-shock body calculator, and a 16-species death match tournament.

Age × Power

Does age equal power?

How old is each species vs how powerful?

The cockroach has been here ten times longer than the honeybee. The honeybee scores higher. Being ancient does not make you smart. What wins is teamwork, not age.

Synthesis verdict

Every species in this index has at least one domain where it would humiliate a human. The cockroach survives radiation doses that would kill us ten times over — and would outlast every other insect on every hostile world in the solar system. Yet it ranks eleventh in intelligence. The honeybee, fragile by comparison, invented democracy before Athens. The deeper pattern: survival and cognition are different currencies. The cockroach buys time. The bee buys coordination. Neither buys a ticket off the planet.
